Goodman Manufacturing - Poor Engineering or Poor Assembly or both added Poor Customer Service
I had a complete new complete unit installed 4 years ago. Turned the unit to AC a month ago and it would not cool.
I called the installers, he checked the unit and discovered all the refrigerant, had leaked out. CAUSE: Two copper tubes, a large and a small was assembled touching, which over the years, vibration caused *** to ware in the smaller tube. I am not a technician but I think the two copper tubes that was touching, were the high pressure (large copper tube) and low pressure (small copper tube). Looking at the path or routing of the tubing, the engineer should have designed the tubing route so that that the tubing would not have touched.
Plus, the assembler should have separated the two tubes or the engineer should have had some type of spacer or separator to prevent the tubes from touching, probably about a 5 cents fix. This was just a poor/bad design or poor assembly or both.
My unit is still under warranty which appears on the surface as a good warranty 10-year parts. I would not have a problem with warranty if a part had warned out from normal use, and in this case either engineering or assembly was the blame. All I asked for because of Goodmanโs error of engineering or assembly was all or half of the cost of the refrigerant as it was shipped from their factory, in this case, the unit was shipped with 8lbs of refrigerant at 50 dollars per pound so either reimbursement of 400 dollars or half of the cost 200 dollars.
The total I spent for the repairs was 505 dollars which included the refrigerant and a 75 dollar service call and a 30 dollar cost for brazing the small copper tube.
As far as customer service, I just include this with the company as poor all the way round because of their warranty policy of just parts, and not taking into consideration an error on the side of the company of either design of engineering or quality of assembly..
Reason of review: Engineering, Deign or Assembly and quality.
Monetary Loss: $505.
Preferred solution: Refund either all ($400) or half ($200) of the cost of the Refridgerant - Basicaly the amount of refridgerant 8lbs shipped in the unit at the time of production.
Goodman Manufacturing Cons: Especially si, I did not like the way this situation was handled.
